Although she may be ugly on the outside, she has a heart of gold! The Prius is a hideous looking little car when sitting next to a Ferrari. But that is not really a fair match up. The hybrid isn’t meant to be gorgeous, its meant to get incredible gas mileage.
You cannot deny the fuel economyof the Prius is far superior to almost anything in the road. But there is an UGLY sister out there who is part of the Pius family but she gets a few MPG more. The Autolabo Body kit may be ugly but this kit gives the aerodynamics an improved flow; and better fuel economy is the result.
The Prius already has the lowest drag coefficient or Cd out of any mass produce car on that has ever traveled the highway of the U.S. What is it exactly that puts the drag in drag coefficient? Well obviously the faster you go the harder a car has to push against the wind, i.e. wind resistance. Without getting all scientific on you, know this: the fast you go, the more wind resistance tries to hold you back. This is why only high horsepower cars can break into the 200 MPH zone.
The little Prius has a nice low Cd of 0.25. Lets’ pretend the Prius wighed the same and had the same horsepower of a
Humer. At 90 miles per hour, the Hummer would have to expend more energy than the Prius to get here. The Hummer brick shape nets this truck a nice Cd of 0.57.
The AutoLabo body kit cosists of a few areo pieces and some whelel covers; a la old school Insight. Rumor has it that the AutoLabo body kit can add up to 6 MPG to the car’s fuel economy. This sounds great….but 6 MPG. I’m a bit skeptical. If this is true than the $2k price tag may be worth it
